Today’s post is dedicated to pirates….i can hear you saying, “aren’t pirates all about stealing, looting, killing, and doing bad things? Aren’t pirates lazy, cruel, dirty, and lude? …well, i don’t think it’s that simple.
Let’s look at the real cause of piracy…Oppression.
There is something with the Pirates that runs throughout…a common cry…that they are willing to do anything necessary to preserve….and that is Freedom. Autonomy. To be guided and spurn forth by their own will and determination.
I think that we should all have a good long chat with the Pirate that lives within all of us, and listen to what that part of our spirit has to say about our lives. About our jobs. Our relationships. Our paradigms of reality and truth.
I say let the Pirate out….at least some of the time!
for your inspiration, i have included a couple of video clips:
Hmmmmm, interesting. A dear friend of mine Ashley sent me an email and said that i needed to check you out. Like yourself, i’m a writer and i’m going to come to your show in Louisville since you come highly recommended.
I’m also a sailor. It’s a lifestyle that is driven by that desire for freedom and the autonomy that you spoke of. We have this image in our minds that being a pirate is a life theft and brutality. And for some, it is. But piracy is born out of poverty and oppression. This reaches far beyond the stories that we seem to hear from time to time about ships being hijacked and held for ransom. Our souls have experienced this through our contact with negative media and other destructive influences. We routinely do what others expect us to do instead of following the path that our hearts have laid out for us. I’m as guilty of this as others. But a point arises in which one must take a stand. The greatest battle we will ever fight is the one to rescue our own humanity. And to do this, we must become ‘pirates’. We must declare our independence from that which has oppressed us. We must become the buccaneers that will captain our voyage to mental freedom. Until we do this, we are slaves to a society that embraces greed and inhumanity instead of peace and universal equality.
I salute you for doing this. One love.
